Steel was cut on 1 August at Jiangnan Shipyard for H2822, a 99,000-cbm VLEC ordered by Pacific Gas (Hong Kong) Holdings Ltd. (‘Pacific Gas’), marking the formal start of construction on the new very large ethane carrier.

The vessel is part of a long-term time-charter agreement between Pacific Gas and Chinese chemical producer Wanhua Chemical. The project underscores close collaboration among the shipowner, charterer and shipyard, and highlights the strategic role of state-backed groups in strengthening China’s energy transport capacity. It also reflects the country’s growing technological capability and industrial coordination in supporting global energy sustainability through advanced marine engineering.
